The image that impacted me most in 2009

As 2009 comes to an end, I can't feel but glad it is over. It was a very hard year for me personally, but it is not about me, it is about others...Others who had it worse that I did...With that I met this fellow in Venice beach early in the year. I never did get his name and have not seen him since... I snapped his picture and bought him some lunch and went on my way. It was not until I got the film developed that I started to look at my images from that day when this one jumped out at me....To see this guy looking so broken reminded me of how good I have it...Still this man will never know the extent of what ''he'' caused..Because of him, I stepped up my giving and my work with those who are far less fortunate that I am...Because Of him I was able to provide nearly 1000 meals for the homeless...Hundreds of tooth brushes, chap sticks, socks, and other hygiene products...I made hundreds of friends and my wife and kids contributed as well...I only wished that I had a partner and that I did not have to do it alone...Still I hope to do more in 2010 though God will have to provide the means and he will as he did this past year....It was suggested by some friends that I write a book on this and perhaps I will give it a try before my time is out...

Please check out my you tube videos on the right. They are some of my 2009 adventures...

A good dog

As some of you know, from some of my previous postings; I do take offense when I see dogs getting treated better than humans. However, there are some instances... like seeing eyes dogs, police dogs and service dogs. These dogs do deserve special places in the home and hence here we have one...and it it brings me joy to bring you a working dog :)

Silhouettes

I really enjoy silhouettes, though I don't often shoot them. These I took at the OC fair.

Dyrdek unveils latest skate park

By BERNIE WILSON (AP) – 1 day ago

Rob Dyrdek and the city of Los Angeles are 2-for-2 in giving skateboarders a place where they can ride challenging obstacles without getting chased away by the police.

Dyrdek, the pro skateboarder and MTV star, unveiled a $350,000 skate park Thursday that is the latest in his Safe Spot, Skate Spot program.

A broken string

As I was watching this fellow cross the street, I noticed the broken string...I also noticed the beautiful music he was playing with a broken string...It amazes me at how well some of these street performers do with so little....

The jewelry district in downtown L.A.

I decided to go for a walk in new part of town. New to me that is. It is called the jewelery district because it is exactly that. We buy gold seems to be the theme these days and all I could do is window shop...Strange that it came full circle for me. When my wife and I got married some 24 years ago, our wedding rings came from right in this area. My mother in law who is a precious lady bought them for us. While my wife has never taken hers off, I wore mine for only a few hours that day...Here are some pictures of my street walk there....

Rain, rain....hooray

It is not often it rains in Los Angeles...I happen to be one who loves the rain...So as I woke up this morning, my wife asked me what I was going to do today. I said..''Street shooting..What else.'' It is not often it rains in L.A. and so when it does, I am out there. One of my favorite things to shoot are umbrellas. They always add some mystery to me. While most of the folks in my area use them to shield themselves from the sun..On this day, they where used to shield themselves from the rain....These images where shot in Boyle heights in East Los Angeles...

These next two images where made at the Griffith park observatory...It goes to show hoe dreary indeed it was up there.... The second image is my second favorite of the day..It was an accident really, but often times those seem to turn out pretty good...

My favorite image was this candid I took of my son. He really loves the water. He has, since the day he was in the womb...We where at some old rail road tracks we found and we where on our way home....The Pentax K20D and DA*50-135F/2.8 is a weather resistant set up and I sure put it to the test this rainy day.....

A new artist

Hi Folks. As some of you might remember, I wrote about a great day in which my Daughter has picked up photography...She is also a very gifted artist with a pencil and charcoal... Here is a self portrait she took all 100% by herself....

Animal cruelty

I have come to the conclusion that this has to be animal cruelty. I mean, dogs where not meant to be treated this way. A dog is not a baby. This is not natural for a dog...Need to get PETA on this quick!

Singing away.

I heard this beautiful voice and as I looked for the angel singing it, I found her. What a great voice and what beautiful ''Christ''mas music she was belting out...I also took some front portraits of her, but those are on film and I am barely into the roll... But for now, here is my pic of the day.
