Evergreen Cemetery is the oldest cemetery in ELA. I go there often to shoot old tombstones and frankly, there you will find some of the most beautiful work of art in the many statues and memorials that folks leave behind. This Cemetery also has a reputaion of being huanted and in the conversations with the ground keepers, they believe it to be true. On this rainy day, the ground keepers where working in the ''the huanted chapel'' and they let me in. I must confess, it felt creepy in there, but I did manage to get off one snap shot from the inside looking out....looking into past history.
A very common site in ELA are all the bars on the windows and the steel security screen doors. A shame really. More rainy day photos shot on film...This was very expired Fuji Superia 400.
Over looking E.L.A. from the top of Mustard hill...As I look down, I think of how many great and wonderful folks live among the gang bangers, drug dealers and thieves....''sigh''..But all in all, I have many friends who live here and I love visiting the area...

Having spent much of my life in the streets of Los Angeles, One sight that is common are shoes on a wire...If you do a google search your will find different meanings. Some will say they mark gang turf, others will say they are marking the spot for; ''drugs sold here''...Well growing up and spending much of my teen years in East L.A. and in South Central L.A. I can tell you this...
Those shoes mean a recent violent death...Seeing two pairs fo shoes hanging on the wire up on Mustard hill in City Terrace, tells me two people, likely kids got killed up there recently and beware...The first time I encountered death was when I was about 12 years old as I recall. This friend ouf ours named Steven was killed by riding his bike down Pomeroy. He was hit by a hit and run driver and a pair of his shoes went up on a wire....

I went driving and walking around various parts of ELA and in particular the City Terrace area. It is a gang, high crime infested area, yet I feel real comfortable there. I will beging a series covering this area.
I shot this all on film.
